How to Run the Segue Section in Your Meeting in Ninety

Note: This feature is currently in beta. Read Currently in Beta at Ninety to learn more about our beta program.

The Segue is the opening section of the default Level 10 Meeting® agenda. It helps your team mentally transition from their day-to-day work into the meeting. Ninety's Segue section now includes two components:

  • An Attendance card that shows who has joined the meeting.
  • A Sharing card that cycles through present team members so the facilitator can track who has shared.

Team Members (managees), Managers, Admins, Implementers, and Owners can start a meeting and facilitate the Segue. All roles (including Observers) can join a meeting and participate. This feature is available on Essentials plans and above.

What the Segue section includes

Leadership team Level 10 meeting screen showing agenda, attendance with 4 of 6 present, and a team member currently sharing during the ‘Share Your Good News’ segment.

The Segue section of your meeting contains two components: Attendance and Sharing. The Attendance card displays every team member's profile icon and tracks who has joined the meeting in real time. The Sharing card displays a prompt and a rotating carousel of present team members, making it easy to see who is currently sharing and who goes next.

Both the Attendance and Sharing cards are collapsible. If your team has added a custom section to the Segue (for example, icebreaker links or meeting prep notes), that custom content remains in place and the Attendance and Sharing components appear below it.

Tracking attendance

Attendance section showing 4 of 6 team members marked present, with avatars indicating who is checked in and an option to mark all as present.

The Attendance card helps the meeting facilitator see at a glance who has joined the meeting in Ninety. When the facilitator starts the meeting, every team member's profile icon appears on the Attendance card. Profile icons are initially shown as not yet joined.

As team members join the meeting, their profile icons automatically update to reflect their presence. The counter at the top of the card updates as well (for example, "1 of 2 present").

To manually mark a team member as present, anyone who has joined the meeting can:

  1. Locate their profile icon on the Attendance card.
  2. Click their profile icon.

This is useful when a team member is in the meeting room or on the team's video call but hasn't joined the Ninety meeting.

To mark everyone present at once, click Mark All Present at the bottom of the Attendance card. Team members not marked present during the Segue are automatically flagged as absent in the Conclude section (see "How attendance connects to the Conclude section" below).

Customizing the Segue section

Teams can customize the Segue in two ways: at the agenda level (persistent changes that carry across meetings) and during a live meeting (temporary changes that reset after the meeting).

Customizing the Segue from the Agendas tab

Managers, Admins, Coaches, and Owners can add a subtitle and rich text content to the Segue section from the Agendas tab. This content appears above the Attendance and Sharing cards during the meeting and persists across meetings.

To customize the Segue section from the Agendas tab:

  1. Click Meetings from the left navigation.
  2. Click the Agendas tab.
  3. Choose the correct team from the Team dropdown.
  4. Click the pencil icon next to the Segue/Question section.
  5. Enter a subtitle (for example, "Segue Questions").
  6. Add any content to the rich text editor (for example, links to icebreaker question generators).
  7. Click Save Changes.

For full details on editing agenda sections, see Creating and Customizing Meeting Agendas.

Changing the Sharing prompt during a meeting

The meeting's facilitator can change the Sharing prompt for that session. The default prompt is "Share your personal and professional best."

To change the prompt:

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the prompt text in the Sharing card.
  2. Enter a custom topic.
  3. Save the change.

Sharing section with a dialog open to edit the topic, showing the text ‘Share your personal and professional best’ and an option to update it while a team member is currently presenting.

The custom topic overwrites the default prompt for all attendees in that meeting. After saving, the person who changed the topic can revert to the default or edit the custom topic at any time during the meeting. The prompt resets to the default automatically at the start of the next meeting, so no extra cleanup is needed.

The Sharing carousel helps the facilitator (and the rest of the team) track who has shared and who still needs to go during the Segue. The carousel displays one team member at a time, showing their profile icon, name, and a "Currently Sharing..." label.

To move through speakers:

  1. Click Next Speaker to advance to the next present team member.
  2. Click Previous Speaker to go back to the previous speaker.

Any team member who has joined the meeting can click these buttons, not just the facilitator. This keeps the flow collaborative rather than requiring one person to manage the rotation.

When all present team members have shared, click Finish in the Sharing card. A confirmation banner appears: "Everyone in attendance has shared!" The facilitator then advances to the next section of the meeting agenda (for example, Headlines) by clicking the appropriate item in the left sidebar.

How attendance connects to the Conclude section

When the Segue section is included in the meeting agenda, the Attendance card feeds directly into the Conclude section. Team members who were not marked present during the Segue are automatically flagged as absent when the meeting reaches the Conclude step. This saves the facilitator and other attendees from manually updating attendance before rating the meeting.

If the meeting's agenda does not include a Segue section, the Conclude section continues to behave as it does today, with no automatic attendance data.

Frequently asked questions

Can Observers participate in the Segue? Yes, Observers can join a meeting and participate in the Segue. However, Observers cannot start a meeting or act as the facilitator.

What happens if a team member joins the meeting late, after the Segue section? Their profile icon updates to present on the Attendance card regardless of when they join. If the Sharing carousel has already been completed, their arrival is still reflected in the attendance count.

Does the facilitator have to use the Sharing carousel? No, the Sharing carousel is optional. If your team prefers to go around the room informally, the carousel is there to help, but doesn't prevent you from moving forward.

Troubleshooting

Issue: A team member's profile icon doesn't appear on the Attendance card. Solution: Verify the team member is a member of the selected team. Check team membership in the Directory. If they were recently added to the team, ask them to refresh their browser and rejoin the meeting.

Issue: A team member's name shows as an email address on the Attendance or Sharing card. Solution: The team member hasn't added their first and last name in the Directory. They can update this from their user profile. Once updated, the name change takes effect the next time they join a meeting.
