Ninety's fiscal calendar setting allows Company Admins to define when your fiscal year begins, ensuring that quarterly metrics, Rocks, meeting rhythms, and performance reviews align with how your company actually plans and operates.

Once configured, this single setting automatically adjusts how quarters appear across Ninety's core tools — eliminating the need for manual translation and ensuring everyone on your team sees "Q1" consistently

Who Can Define the Fiscal Year

  • Configure the fiscal year: only users with Owner or Admin permissions can access the Company Settings page (other users cannot).
  • View fiscal-aligned data: All users automatically see quarters and time-based data aligned to your company's fiscal calendar once the setting is applied.

Why Use Custom Fiscal Calendars

When your fiscal year doesn't match the calendar year, you may experience several challenges:

  • Misaligned planning cycles: Your team has to mentally translate "Q1" to match your actual first quarter.
  • Confusing reports: Scorecard data and quarterly summaries don't reflect your real operating rhythm.
  • Slower meetings: Leadership teams spend time clarifying which quarter they're actually discussing.
  • Lost trust in the platform: When the numbers don't match your fiscal reality, it's harder to rely on Ninety for decision-making.

Setting your fiscal year start month solves these problems by aligning Ninety's quarter definitions with your business's actual planning and reporting cycles.

How to Set Your Fiscal Year Start Month

  1. Navigate to Company Settings (click on your name at the bottom of the left navigation. Then, click Company Settings).
  2. Locate the Fiscal Year Start Month setting.
  3. Select the month when your fiscal year begins (for example, July, October, or April) — changes are saved automatically.

The newly defined fiscal calendar applies immediately across all supported tools in Ninety.

What Changes When You Set a Fiscal Year

After configuring your fiscal year start month, the following Ninety tools automatically adjust to reflect your company-defined quarters:

  • Scorecard: Quarterly views and aggregations align to your fiscal quarters.
  • Rocks: Rock planning cycles and "this quarter" references match your fiscal calendar.
  • Meetings: Meeting agendas, summaries, and quarterly check-ins display the correct fiscal quarter.
  • Reviews: Quarterly reviews and performance conversations happen in the right fiscal context.
  • Insights: Reporting and analytics group data by your company's fiscal periods.

Important: The fiscal year setting applies to your entire company. All users will see the same fiscal-aligned quarters once this setting is configured.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my fiscal year start month after setting it?

Yes, users with Owner or Admin settings can update the fiscal year start month at any time in Company Settings. Keep in mind that changing this setting will immediately affect how quarters are displayed across the platform for all users.

Will this affect historical data?

Your historical data remains intact. Ninety will re-group data by fiscal quarter based on the new setting, so past quarters may be relabeled to match your fiscal calendar.

Do all users need to take action?

No. Once an Admin configures the fiscal year start month, the change applies automatically to all users. Team members will immediately see fiscal-aligned quarters without needing to adjust any settings themselves.

What if my fiscal year doesn't start on the first of the month?

Currently, fiscal years must begin on the first day of a month. If your fiscal year starts mid-month, select the month closest to your actual start date.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes. Fiscal calendar settings apply across the web and mobile apps. Once configured, all users see fiscal-aligned quarters regardless of which platform they're using.
