What is a Smart Measurable?
Smart Measurables transform existing Measurables into variables that can be used to create formulas. They give you the power to perform calculations on your Scorecard as you enter data automatically.
Smart Measurables can use the following basic mathematical operators, including order of operations formulas with parentheses:
- Addition
- Subtraction
- Multiplication
- Division
Permissions Needed
Only users with the role of Manager and above can add or edit Measurables to the Scorecard, including Smart Measurables.
Creating a New Smart Measurable
- Click Scorecard from the left navigation.
- Click Create and Add a New Measurable.
- Name and describe the Measurable.
- Click the Smart Measurable toggle below the description field.
- Create your formula by adding existing Measurables from your Scorecard, numeric values, and mathematical operators.
- Enter a goal for your Smart Measurable.
- Click the Save button.
Smart Measurable Features
Click through the tabs below to learn about the Smart Measurable features.
Adding Measurables as Variables
The core of Smart Measurables is the ability to utilize your standard Measurables as variables.
Example: You are already capturing “Sales” and “Cost of Goods Sold” on your Scorecard and want to generate “Gross Profit” automatically. The following directions follow this example.
- Click Scorecard.
- Click the plus sign next to the time interval listed (Weekly, for example).
- Click Create and Add a New Measurable.
- Name the Measurable “Gross Profit.”
- Click the Smart Measurable toggle below the description field.
- Click the Add Measurable button.
- Search for and click your existing “Sales” Measurable.
- Select the subtract operator.
- Click the Add Measurable button.
- Search for and click your “Cost of Goods Sold” Measurable.
- Create a Goal.
- Optional: Assign the Measurable's Owner.
- Click the Save button.
Adding Numbers as Constant Variables
Constants allow you to treat numbers the same for each calculation.
Example: You want to calculate a “daily average” by dividing your Weekly Measurable by seven.
- Search for and click your existing “Weekly Sales” Measurable.
- Click the division operator.
- Click the Add Number button.
- Enter the number seven (7) and click the checkmark.
- Create a Goal.
- Optional: Assign the Measurable's Owner.
- Click the SAVE button.
Clearing the Smart Measurable Formula
Two options are available for deleting aspects of your Smart Measurable formula.
- Clicking the Backspace button in the window removes one element at a time, starting from the end of the formula.
- Clicking the X (Clear All) button empties the formula field.
Adding an Existing Measurable
Follow these steps to open a window that allows you to select from any of the Measurables your company has created and add them to your team's Scorecard.
- Navigate to the Scorecard tool from the main left navigation bar.
- Click on the desired timeframe from the options shown below the filters bar (for example, Weekly).
- Click on the button.
- Click Add an Existing Measurable from the options shown.
- Check the box of the Measurable(s) you want to add.
- Click the SAVE button.
Manual Score Override
When “Manual Score Override” is toggled on, manually entered scores will override calculated scores. If toggled off, manual scores will be ignored, and only calculated scores will be shown.
If Manual Score Override is toggled off when converting an existing Measurable into a Smart Measurable, the calculated scores will overwrite all previous data.
