How to Document Your Team's Traction Page in Ninety's V/TO® Tool
The V/TO® tool's Traction® page is available on every plan, including Free. Every team has its own, customizable Traction page.
Who can edit the Traction® page
Owners, Admins, Implementers, and Managers can edit the Vision, Traction, and SWOT pages for teams they're on, including the Leadership Team. Owners and Admins can edit them for any team.
How to create a 1-year goal
Owners, Admins, Implementers, and Managers can add goals to the 1-Year Plan for teams they're on. Here's how:
Click V/TO from the left navigation.
Click the Traction tab.
Choose a team from the Team dropdown.
Click the pencil icon at the top right of the 1 Year panel.
Scroll down to the Goals for the Year section and click the plus button.
Write a title for the annual goal.
Connecting 1-year goals to Rocks and Issues
Linking Rocks and Issues to a 1-year goal shows how each quarter's work supports the year's plan. Before you link work to a goal, make the goal SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound), the same test you'd use for a Rock.
There's no owner field on 1-year goals. If you want one person to keep each goal moving, some teams add that person's name in parentheses after the goal title and use the goal's description for what makes it SMART and a rough plan for each quarter.
Owners, Admins, Managers, Implementers, and Team Members can link a Rock or Issue they can edit to a goal. Observers can't link items. To link a goal to an existing Rock or Issue:
Click the Rock or Issue's row to open its details panel.
Scroll down to the Linked Items section and click + Linked Item.
Use the right caret (>) to move to the Goal tab.
Select one or more goals. The list shows your team's goals, including goals cascaded from the leadership team.
Click the button at the bottom of the window to save the link (for example, Link items to Issues).
On the Planning Board, you can also click Link Goal on any Rock's card, including Rocks planned for future quarters. For the steps, read Using the Planning Board to Plan Rocks Across Quarters. For everything else you can link, read Linking Items.
To see everything connected to a goal, click the goal on the Traction page. It lists the Issues linked to it and the linked Rocks from past, current, and future quarters.
The video below walks through making 1-year goals SMART, linking Rocks and Issues to them, and planning future Rocks on the Planning Board.

Long-Term Issues on the Traction® page
Maintaining a long-term Issues list helps teams focus on current priorities while documenting ideas, opportunities, and obstacles to discuss and solve during quarterly or annual planning meetings.
The Long-Term Issues section of the Traction page displays a direct copy of your team's long-term list from the Issues tool. Use this page to:
Add new Issues.
Update Issues.
Assign priority values.
View archived Issues.
Sort your list.
Creating Issues requires a paid plan. Companies on the Free plan can't use this section of the Traction page.
How to make a leadership team Issue public
A team's long-term Issues list is open for all team members to view. Leadership team Issues are private to other teams by default. Make an Issue public, and other teams can see it when they open the leadership team's V/TO with View Leadership V/TO.
To make a leadership team long-term Issue public:
Click V/TO from the left navigation.
Ensure Leadership is selected in the Team dropdown.
Click the Long-Term Issues tab.
Click an Issue to open its details panel.
Enable the Public Issue toggle.
