How to Document Your V/TO® in Ninety
The V/TO® tool's Vision page is available to all subscription levels. Every team has its own, customizable V/TO® page except those designated as Project Teams.
The Vision page includes sections to document your:
Core Values: A set of guiding principles and behaviors that an organization desires to see consistently embodied by its team members.
Core Focus™: Your Purpose/Cause/Passion (the reason your organization exists, the powerful emotions that influence you, and/or a future state so appealing that you're willing to go the extra mile to work toward it) and Niche (what you provide to your industry's market).
10 Year Target™: Where you want your organization to be in 10 years.
3-Year Picture™: Broad goals for three years in the future, often including revenue.
Go to Market Strategy: Your target market, 3 Uniques™, proven processes, and guarantee.
Note: The Revenue, Profit, and Measurables fields in the 3-Year Picture (and the 1-Year Plan on the Traction page) are free-text fields. Ninety doesn't apply currency formatting automatically, so type values exactly as you want them to appear — for example, $32,700,000 or $7 million.
Video: setting up your V/TO
Watch the video below for a walkthrough of building out your V/TO, from the Vision page through the Traction page, including how to control who in your company can see it.
The video covers:
Editing the Vision page. Adding and removing Core Values, each with a short name plus an optional longer description. Those descriptions carry into the People Analyzer® and GWC® when you run a quarterly review, so detail written here pays off later. Core Focus can be narrowed to just the word your team actually uses, and sections accept attachments.
How the three time horizons relate. The 3-Year Picture, 1-Year Plan, and 90-day sections share a structure: the descriptions you write for revenue, profit, and Measurables carry across all three, while the values stay independent, so a target can differ from one horizon to the next. Measurables can be pulled from your existing Scorecard or created new.
Making goals actionable. Opening a goal to add detail, making it SMART, and linking the Rocks and other items being worked toward it. The more you link, the more context the platform has to draw on.
Company Rocks in the 90-day section. Any Rock created at the company level appears there automatically.
Cascading and per-team V/TOs. The Cascade to All Teams toggle decides whether everyone in the account can view the V/TO. Individual teams can also keep their own, with the Vision sections typically cascaded down from the leadership team.
Keeping long-term Issues private. Even when a V/TO is shared company-wide, the long-term Issues list stays visible to the leadership team only. Each Issue has to be marked public individually before anyone else can see it on the V/TO.
