To create a new team or edit existing teams, users must have the role of Owner, Admin, Manager, or Implementer.
How to Create a New Team
To create a new team:
Click your name at the bottom of the left navigation.
Click Company Settings or Teams.
Click Create Team.
Write the Team's Name.
Click Add.
Selecting the Team's Type
After creating the Leadership Team, each team starts as a departmental team. Learn more about team types below.
Leadership Team
Each organization in Ninety has one Leadership Team (LT). The LT creates the organization's Vision, so they're the only team that can edit the company's Core Values, Core Focus, 10-Year Target, 3 Year Picture, and Go to Market Strategy.
The LT can also create Company Rocks to track quarterly goals the whole organization is working toward.
Note: The Leadership Team cannot be changed to a “Private” team or “Project” team.
Departmental Team (Default)
Departmental teams have the same functionality as the LT, but they cannot edit the organization's Core Values, Purpose/Passion/Just Cause, Compelling and Audacious Goals, or Go to Market Strategy.
They can create their own Vision to align team members around a shared vision, track long-term goals, and document long-term Issues.
Project Team
Project teams have the same functionality as department teams, except they cannot create their own V/TO. These teams are often formed for a specific interdepartmental purpose.
To turn a team into a Project team:
Click your name from the left navigation.
Click Company Settings.
Click Teams.
Click the square box in the Project column on the intended team.
Private Team
Private teams are often used for one-on-one feedback meetings between a team leader and their direct reports. Since they're private, only the members assigned to the team can view the content within.
Who can view private teams?
Owners, Admins, and Implementers/Coaches can see that private teams exist on the Teams page in Company Settings, but they cannot view items created by private teams (such as Issues or Rocks) unless they're added to the team. Owners and Admins can add themselves to any team, including private teams, in Company Settings > Teams or using the Directory tool. Implementers/Coaches cannot add themselves to a private team; a user with the Owner role must add them.
To turn a team into a Private team:
Click your name from the left navigation.
Click Teams from the popup.
Click the square box in the Private column on the intended team.
Running a Recurring 1-on-1 with a Two-Person Team
Ninety has no dedicated 1-on-1 meeting feature, so recurring 1-on-1s run as a two-person team in the Meetings tool. The 1-on-1 tool holds Quarterly Reviews, Annual Reviews, and the People Analyzer® — it has no weekly meeting option and no meeting agendas.
Owners, Admins, Managers, and Implementers/Coaches can create the team. Owners and Admins can add themselves to a private team; Implementers/Coaches cannot.
To set up a recurring 1-on-1:
Click your name at the bottom of the left navigation, then click Company Settings > Teams.
Click Create Team, name it for the pair (for example, Jordan and Alex 1-on-1), then click Add.
Add both people to the team, and no one else.
Click the square box in the Private column for that team so only its two members can see its content.
Choose the agenda you want to use in Meetings > Agendas. Creating a custom agenda requires the Accelerate or Thrive plan; see Create and Customize Your Meeting Agendas.
Open the Meetings tool, select the new team from the Team dropdown, then click Start a Meeting or schedule it to recur at whatever cadence you want.
The two-person team gets its own Issues, To-Dos, Rocks, and Measurables, so everything you discuss in the 1-on-1 has a home. Because the team is private, its notes and recaps stay between its two members. For more on running the meeting itself, see Introduction to the Meetings Tool.
Troubleshooting
The private team I created for my 1-on-1 isn't in the Meetings Team dropdown.
The Meetings Team dropdown lists only teams you belong to, and creating a team does not automatically add you to it. Open Company Settings > Teams and confirm you are listed as a member. If you have the Owner or Admin role, add yourself there or in the Directory tool, then reload the Meetings page. If the team still doesn't appear, contact support.
I have the Implementer/Coach role and can't add myself to a private team.
This is expected. Implementers/Coaches can see that a private team exists but cannot add themselves to it. Ask a user with the Owner role to add you in Company Settings > Teams. Once you're a member, the team appears in your Meetings Team dropdown.
Renaming a Team
Users with the role of Owner, Admin, Manager, or Implementer can rename an existing team. You can open the Teams page two ways:
From the Directory: Click Directory in the left navigation, then click Go to teams at the top of the page.
From Company Settings: Click your name at the bottom of the left navigation, then click Company Settings > Teams.
To rename a team:
Open the Teams page using either path above.
Click the team you want to rename to open its details panel.
Edit the team's name in the field at the top of the panel.
Archiving or Deleting a Team
Users with the role of Owner, Admin, Manager, or Implementer can archive or delete a team from the Teams page.
Open the Teams page (see the paths above).
Hover over the team and click the ellipsis (...) to open the more options menu.
Click Archive team or Delete team.
Archiving removes the team from your active Teams list while keeping its data — change the status filter at the top of the Teams page (set to Active by default) to view archived teams. Deleting permanently removes the team. The Leadership Team cannot be archived or deleted.
