Measuring Your Six Key Components® with the Org Assessment

Every Ninety account includes an Org Assessment that mirrors the Organizational Checkup® and can be deployed directly from the Assessments tool.

How to Use the Org Assessment in Place of the Organizational Checkup® in Ninety

The Organizational Checkup® is an EOS® Worldwide survey that measures your organization's health across the Six Key Components®.

The official Organizational Checkup® is not included in Ninety's Assessments tool, but Ninety provides an Org Assessment, a built-in assessment that closely mirrors the Organizational Checkup® and evaluates the same Six Key Components®. Owners, Admins, and Implementers can launch the Org Assessment to their teams. Owners, Admins, Managers, Team Members, and Observers complete the assessments assigned to them. Implementers can launch assessments but can't take them.

What is the Organizational Checkup®?

The Organizational Checkup® is a survey created by EOS® Worldwide that helps leadership teams measure their organization's performance across the Six Key Components®: Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. Teams typically complete the Organizational Checkup® at least once a year, most often before an Annual Planning Session, to establish a baseline and track improvement over time. Many EOS Implementers also use it before Quarterly Planning Sessions to keep a pulse on organizational health.

How Ninety handles the Organizational Checkup®

Ninety's Assessments tool does not include the official EOS Organizational Checkup®. Instead, every Ninety account comes with an Org Assessment. The Org Assessment is a built-in survey that evaluates the same Six Key Components® as the Organizational Checkup® and can be used as a direct substitute for companies running on EOS.

  • Q: Does Ninety have the Organizational Checkup®? A: The official Organizational Checkup® from EOS Worldwide is not included in Ninety. However, Ninety's Org Assessment covers the same Six Key Components® and serves the same purpose. You can deploy it from the Assessments tool on any Ninety account.

  • Q: What is the difference between the Organizational Checkup® and the Org Assessment? A: The Organizational Checkup® is the official EOS Worldwide survey. The Org Assessment is Ninety's built-in version that closely mirrors it, evaluating the same Six Key Components®. Both help your team measure organizational health and identify areas for improvement.

Who can launch and complete the Org Assessment

Access to the Org Assessment depends on your user role:

  • Owner and Admin: Can launch the Org Assessment, track who has completed it, and view results from the Assessments and Results section. Can also complete assessments assigned to them.

  • Implementer: Can launch the Org Assessment, track who has completed it, and view results from the Assessments and Results section. Implementers can't take assessments.

  • Manager: Can complete assigned assessments from the Assigned Assessments section. Managers can't launch assessments.

  • Team Member: Can complete assigned assessments from the Assigned Assessments section.

  • Observer: Can complete assigned assessments from the Assigned Assessments section.

Launching the Org Assessment for your team

Owners, Admins, and Implementers launch the Org Assessment from the Assessments and Results section of the Assessments tool. To launch the Org Assessment:

  1. Click Assessments from the left navigation.

  2. Click Launch existing in the Assessments and Results section.

  3. Select Org Assessment from the Which Assessment template do you want to launch? dropdown.

  4. Optionally, give this round a new name, such as "Org Assessment Q4, 2026."

  5. Set the Launch date and the End date. If you're reviewing the results in a planning session, set the end date before the meeting so every response is in.

  6. Select the teams that should receive the assessment from the Assessment template recipients dropdown. Every user on the selected teams receives it.

  7. Optionally, select Create To-Dos for assessment template recipients to give each person a reminder.

  8. Optionally, choose people from the Send results to dropdown to give them access to the results.

  9. Click Launch.

Each person on the selected teams sees the assessment in their Assigned Assessments section. The person who launched it receives the results after it closes. For detailed steps on managing assessments, read Using the Assessments Tool.

Note: When selecting teams to receive an assessment, such as the Org Assessment, users assigned to more than one team will still receive the Org Assessment only once; they will not receive multiple copies.

Video: running the Org Assessment before annual planning

Watch the video below to see the Org Assessment launched ahead of an Annual Planning Session and its results reviewed with the leadership team.

The video covers:

  • Launching it ahead of the session. Using Launch existing, sending it to the leadership team one to two weeks out, and setting the end date for the day before the meeting.

  • Reminders and results. Adding a To-Do for each recipient and choosing who receives the results.

  • Tracking completion. Opening the launched assessment to see who has finished it.

  • Reviewing results in the meeting. Printing the results as a PDF, with the overall score, each component's score, and the score for every question, and opening it in a second tab for the Organizational Checkup section on Day 1.

  • Turning results into action. Creating Issues, potential Rocks, and potential one-year goals from the lowest scores.

Running the review in a Quarterly Session

The default Quarterly Session agenda includes an EOS Tools section (60 minutes) — the natural place to review your Org Assessment results as a team. Here's a structured way to run it.

Before the session

  1. Deploy the Org Assessment to your leadership team about a week ahead of the session (see the steps above), with a completion deadline before the meeting.

  2. Have each person complete it independently. The value comes from comparing unfiltered individual perspectives, so avoid discussing scores until you're together.

During the EOS Tools segment

  1. Review the overall results together. The facilitator (typically the Integrator or your EOS Implementer) walks through the results component by component. EOS considers a score of 80% or above strong across all Six Key Components®.

  2. Discuss the gaps between raters. Where team members' scores on a statement differ by two or more points, pause and discuss until the team reaches a shared understanding. Those gaps usually surface the most useful conversations.

  3. Focus on the weakest one or two components. Don't try to strengthen everything in a single quarter — pick where the team will get the most leverage.

  4. Turn takeaways into action. Add discussion topics to your Issues list to solve during the IDS® segment, and let the biggest improvement opportunities become candidate Rocks for the coming quarter.

  5. Record your scores. Enter the team's average score for each component into the Org Checkup Measurables on the Leadership Team's Quarterly Scorecard (see below) to track organizational health over time.

Integrating Org Assessment results into Ninety

Org Assessment results connect to two key areas within Ninety: your Annual Planning Meeting agenda and your Leadership Team's Quarterly Scorecard (your weekly metrics dashboard).

Annual Planning Meeting

During your Annual Planning Session, Day 1 of the meeting agenda includes a dedicated section for reviewing Org Assessment results. Use this time to discuss your team's scores across the Six Key Components® and identify areas for improvement heading into the new year.

Quarterly Scorecard

Organization Checkup Measurables are included as 90 Default Measurables on the Quarterly tab of the Leadership Team's Scorecard. After your team completes the Org Assessment, enter the team's average scores for each component into the Scorecard to track your organizational health over time.
