How to Set Up an Authenticator App for MFA in Ninety

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds a second verification step when you log in to Ninety, so your account stays protected even if your password is compromised. This article covers how to link an authenticator app, what to expect at login, and what to do if you need to switch methods.

Overview of MFA in Ninety

MFA in Ninety adds an extra layer of security by requiring a time-based one-time password (TOTP) generated by an authenticator app. This ensures that even if your password is compromised, your account remains secure.

Set up an authenticator app

To set up an authenticator app as your MFA method in Ninety:

  1. Navigate to Settings in your Ninety account.

  2. Go to AccountAuthenticator.

  3. Select the option to set up an authenticator app.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your authenticator app (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, or Okta Verify) by scanning the provided QR code.

  5. Once linked, the app will generate time-based one-time codes for your Ninety account.

Understand authenticator app prompts

When you enable the authenticator app option as your MFA method, you will be prompted to enter a code from your app during login. This code is a time-sensitive, one-time password generated by the app.

  • If you see this prompt, it means MFA is active for your account, and you must use the linked authenticator app to complete the login process.

  • Ensure you have previously scanned the QR code to link the app to your Ninety account.

Alternative MFA methods and troubleshooting

If you no longer wish to use an authenticator app or encounter issues:

  • Contact your Owner or Admin to switch your MFA method to an alternative, such as SMS-based verification.

  • Owners and Admins can also disable MFA for your account if permitted by your organization's policy.

If you are locked out and your Owner or Admin cannot resolve it, contact support.
