Teaching Maz Your Preferences

Tell Maz once how you want to be addressed, how long its answers should be, or which language to use, and it applies that preference in every future conversation.

How to Save Personal Preferences with Maz in Ninety

Maz can remember your personal preferences. Tell Maz in plain language how you want it to work with you, such as the name to call you, how long its answers should be, or the language to reply in, and Maz saves that preference and applies it the next time you open a conversation, and every conversation after that. Preferences are available to every user on any paid subscription plan, they belong only to you, and nobody else in your company can see them.

Preferences are different from your chat history. Maz does not carry the details of one conversation into the next. To return to an earlier discussion, reopen it from the History tab. See Viewing and Continuing Past Maz Chats.

What Maz can remember

Maz remembers explicit preferences about how you want it to respond to you. Common examples include:

  • What to call you. A first name, a nickname, or a title.

  • How long answers should be. For example, a maximum of two sentences, or a short summary before any detail.

  • How answers should look. For example, all lowercase letters, no bullet points, or no emoji.

  • Which language to use. Ask Maz to always reply in French, Spanish, or another language, even when you write in English.

  • Context about your role. For example, that you are the Integrator, or that you run a school and want examples framed that way.

  • Team preference. Maz can see every team you are assigned to, but you can ask it to answer from one team's information by default unless you say otherwise.

Note: Language preferences are not hardcoded at this time. If you ask Maz to remember a non-English language preference, it may still reply in English occasionally, especially during guided workflows.

Maz does not need to be told who you are. Every new conversation already includes your name, your user role, and the teams you belong to, so preferences are for the things Maz could not know on its own.

How to save a preference

To save a preference, tell Maz what you want in the same way you would tell a colleague. There is no settings page to open.

  1. Click the Maz button in the top-right corner of any page in Ninety.

  2. Type your preference as a plain request. For example, "Assume I'm always asking about the Leadership Team unless I state otherwise," or "Always keep your replies to two sentences and use only lowercase letters."

  3. Maz confirms the preference and begins using it immediately in the current conversation.

The preference stays saved. Start a new chat tomorrow and Maz still uses your nickname, your preferred length, or your preferred language without being reminded.

Preferences follow you, not the chat. They apply in Maz conversations and in guided Maz workflows, such as drafting a SMART Rock or refining an Accountability Chart® Seat.

How to see what Maz remembers about you

To check your saved preferences, ask Maz directly: "What do you remember about me?" Maz lists every preference it has saved, such as the name it calls you and any formatting or language instructions. Use this when you cannot recall which preferences you have set, or before you change one.

How to change or remove a preference

To change a preference, tell Maz the new version. For example, "Call me Sam instead of Samantha." Maz replaces the old preference with the new one.

To remove a preference, ask Maz to forget it. For example, "Forget the two-sentence limit," or "Stop replying in lowercase." Maz confirms the preference is removed and stops applying it from that point on, in the current conversation and in every future one.

Who can see your preferences

Your preferences are yours alone. Maz saves them to your own user account, so a teammate, Manager, Admin, or Owner never sees them, and a preference you set never changes how Maz responds to anyone else. Preferences also never change what data Maz can access. Maz still sees only the teams and items your role allows.

Frequently asked questions

Does Maz remember my past conversations?

Maz does not bring the contents of an earlier conversation into a new one. It remembers your saved preferences, and every new conversation starts with your name, role, and teams. To continue an earlier discussion, open it from the History tab in the Maz panel and reply there. See Viewing and Continuing Past Maz Chats.

Can I ask Maz to always answer in another language?

Yes. Tell Maz, for example, "Always reply in French," and it replies in French in every conversation until you ask it to stop. You can still write to Maz in any language. Maz may not always follow a non-English language preference. If Maz keeps replying in the wrong language, contact support.

Does setting a preference change what Maz can see?

No. Preferences only change how Maz responds to you. What Maz can access is still set by your user role and team assignments.

Can my Admin set a preference for the whole company?

No. Preferences are personal and are saved per user. Each person tells Maz their own.

Can I save a preference to have Maz help me prep for a recurring meeting?

No. A saved preference cannot run a workflow for you at a scheduled time. Our development team is actively improving Maz and the platform, including the ability to schedule tasks with Maz. Consider joining our beta program for early access to our newest features.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Maz did not apply a preference I set earlier.

Solution:

  1. Ask Maz, "What do you remember about me?" to confirm the preference was saved.

  2. If it is missing, state it again as a direct request, for example, "From now on, keep your replies to two sentences."

  3. If Maz confirms the preference but still does not follow it in a new conversation, contact support.

Issue: Maz is using a nickname or format I no longer want.

Solution:

  1. Tell Maz to forget that preference, for example, "Forget the nickname Elmo."

  2. Ask Maz, "What do you remember about me?" to confirm it is gone.

  3. State the new preference, if you want a replacement.

Issue: I asked Maz to remember something from a conversation, and it is not there the next day.

Solution:

  1. Maz saves preferences about how it responds to you. It does not save facts, decisions, or drafts from a conversation for later.

  2. To return to that conversation, open it from the History tab and continue it there.

  3. To keep a fact or decision in Ninety, ask Maz to create an Issue, To-Do, or Headline for it during the conversation.
